The matchup featured the top two seeds in Hockey East, with BU having the top seed and Merrimack checking in at # 2.
BU was assured of an NCAA tournament berth regardless of the outcome of this game, while Merrimack would be assured with one with a win, and with a loss, the Warriors still could qualify with help from other games around the country.
