The Next Revolution in Broadcasting is Here
Time to speak on the newest revolutionary tool to come down the broadcasting pike- the Blast Mic. I have been studying and learning about this amazing tool, having a long and fun journey along the way.
When I first saw the advertisements for this piece of equipment, I knew I had to get involved with it. It reinforced what I have always wanted to do- to be able to broadcast any content, any time, on my terms. I think that it raises a broadcaster's value a hundred fold.
The journey started off with a few bumps. The set-up procedure normally is a very quick process. However, for reasons unknown to me, I could not get my product to work, no matter what I tried. I experienced connection failure after connection failure. I spent a lot of time with the support team, and it was determined that a bug was detected in the software, along with four other users. Once that was solved, I was good to go.
The Blast Mic is a tool that fits in the palm of your hand and allows you to stream live audio to Blast Radio, (specifically the Blast Radio app), You Tube, and Twitch. You Tube took a lot of time and effort to set up, but I got that to work after a time.
As with any new piece of technology, there is a learning curve. I've had a few broadcasts where there have been issues with the sound quality- crackling noises to be precise. I am almost certain that that issue has to do with how the device is connected- I bought a mobile hotspot which works great for outdoor broadcasts- (I did a music show at a lake with it and the audio was pristine); I've also done a few broadcasts where I've used the hotspot in places that have Wi-Fi and experienced those above issues. I'm still learning about Wi-Fi vs. Hotspot and where to use them in what places. I'm asking people to be patient with me as I figure things out. The only way to get the answers you need is to keep broadcasting.
The Blast Mic has a lot of cool features- it saves your broadcasts in the Cloud and you have access to them any time you want. You can download them, put them up on Sound Cloud on the web, or any other place you can share it. It also has a ducking feature- what that means is that the Blast Mic will always treat your voice as the top priority. Say for example you are doing a broadcast where you are singing and playing the guitar. When both your voice and the instrument are picked up, the music will automatically duck beneath your voice. In other words, your vocal will always be dominant. If you pause singing and are just playing the instrument, the instrument will become louder. A pretty ingenious feature.
You can also mute the mics. Say you are running commercials during a sports broadcast. When you get done speaking, you can turn the mics off and play your spots through the external line device you have plugged into it.
The battery life on the device is long, too, fully charged it will give you eight hours of broadcast time. There's room for two headphones to be plugged in, so you could play music with one other person, or if it's a sports game, Mic 2 would be your analyst. Pretty amazing stuff.
Also, I should mention, that this will not take the place of my original radio station, the Harborlight Sessions Radio Network. It will only add to it.
